These notes ©2018, Andrew Carnie. Sevda is a woman's name. This dance was introduced to the US by Michael Ginsburg who learned it from Kasimira Motafora who sang with the Koutev ensemble.

Meter: 5/8 usually counted as (12)(345) or QS, but sometimes it is counted as (1)(2)(345)
Formation: Open circle, hands down in V position
Introduction: None

Part 1

Bar 1:  Rock forward into the center on R (QS)
Bar 2:  Rock backwards onto L (QS)
Bar 3: Step on R to R (1), Step on L behind R (2), Step on R to R (345)
Bar 4: Hop on R, bringing L up and around to back (Q), Step on L behind R (S)
Bars 5-16: repeat bars 1-4, three more times.

Part 2:

Bar 1: Step on R to R (1), cross L over R (2), step back on R in place (345)
Bar 2: Hop on R (1), Step on L to L (2), Cross R in front of L (345)
Bar 3: Hop on R (1), Step on L to L (2), Step on R behind L (345)
Bar 4: Jump on both feet (Q), hop onto L, kicking R foot to R side (Ginsburg calls this a "flair") (S)
Bar 5: Moving into the center, step R (1), L (2), R (345)
Bar 6: Hop on R, kicking L foot to L side ("Flair") (Q), Take a big step on L into the center, leaving R foot back in place, toe touching the ground.
Bar 7: Pause (QS)
Bar 8: Pause (QS)

Part 3

Bar 1: Hop on L, bringing R up and forward (Q), Step backwards out of center on R (S)
Bar 2: Step L (1), R (2), L (345) out of the center
Bar 3: Facing slightly R of center, step on R in place (1), Cross L over R (2), Step back on R in place (345) (pas de basque)
Bar 4: Hop on R, swinging L foot around to back and pivoting to face RLOD (1), Step on L backwards in LOD  (2), Take a big step R forward in RLOD (345)
Bar 5: Hop on R (1), Step back on L in LOD (2), Step on R in place (345)
Bar 6: Swing L foot around in front and traveling in LOD step L (1), R (2), L (345)
Bar 7: Step R (1), L (2), R (345)
Bar 8: Step L (1), R (2), R (345)

repeat dance from the beginning, except every 2nd time through the dance repeat bars 1-4, a fifth time.
