Tabakiera (Poland/USA)

Tabakiera
Poland/USA (Sacred Circle)

These notes ©2017, Andrew Carnie. I learned this dance from Harvey Gardner. It's part of the sacred circle dance tradition found through out the world. The music is Goran Bregovič and Kayah singing a tango. The dance was choreographed by Wilson Liepnitz. There is an Israeli/Greek dance of the same name choreographed by Motti Kotzer. This one is completely different.

Music: Kayah and Bregovič Tabakiera
Meter: 2/4 (Tango)
Formation: Closed circle hands in W position
Introduction: Wait through the slow singing, then the violin plays two bars, and the singer starts. Start the preparatory bar right as the singer starts

Preparatory bar: Step on R foot and Jetté L foot forward and out to the left (1) bring L around behind R (2)
Bar 1: Step on L behind R (1), Step on R to R (2)

Bar 3: Step R, L  in LOD (1,2)

Bar 8: Step on R foot next to L and jetté (kick) L forward and around to L (1), bring L around behind R (2)
Repeat dance from bar 1 until the end of the music.
